Calibration is critical to accurately register the torque applied to a given fastener.
Over-tightened fastener can cause deform or breakage to product in use. Lesser torque applied may cause fastener to loose when in operation – causing dangerous repercussions to the product or anyone near. It’s critical to know the exact torque value delivered.
Factors such as frequency of use, handling/mishandling and storage conditions will have great influence on calibration interval needed.
ISO 6789 specify torque wrenches should be calibrated at 30%, 60% and 100% of range, for both clockwise and counterclockwise direction, once every 5,000 cycles or 12 months, whichever comes first. If the torque found to be out of calibration, it must adjust to set tolerance.
